Solar and Efficiency Tax Credits Effective Now!
New and extended tax credits went into effect January 1.
If you missed the news last fall, Congress extended some pretty incredible tax incentives for energy efficient home upgrades and solar energy, including a new credit for plug-in hybrid vehicles. Those credits went into effect the first of this year (Jan. 1, 2009) and apply to upgrades and purchases installed after that point. The credits include $150-$300 for efficient furnaces, boilers, air conditioners and water heaters, a 10% credit for the cost of home insulation, exterior doors and energy star windows (up to a max of $200 for windows and $500 for the others) and a credit of 30% of the cost for solar hot water and electric systems.
